buttermilkbiscuits

Ingredients: ( I use organic)

  • 2.5 cups of all purpose flour
  • 6-8 Tbsp of cold butter or lard
  • 1 Tbsp of Baking Power
  • 1 tsp kosher salt
  • 1/2 cup of buttermilk powder
  • 1 Tbsp of Light Brown Sugar
  • 1.5 Cups of Half and Half (1/2 cream 1/2 whole milk)

(extra flour for kneading and cutting biscuits)

Directions:

Place all the dry ingredients in a large bowl and add your lard/butter.  Cut in the lard or butter with fork or pastry cutter.  Add 1.5 cups of Half and Half and gently stir until the flour and liquid is mixed and the dough appears lumpy and sticky (not wet).  Pour onto dusted cutting board and press out with your hands using the palms or fingers to spread (not to hard) fold in on the sides and top several times, gently about 6-7 times. This will make the biscuits flaky.  Then use the same method again and once you have about 1 inch area, use biscuit cutter or circle cutter whatever you have and punch out your biscuits.  Heat your oven to 450 place on parchment paper or lightly sprayed with cooking oil.  Bake for about 8-10 min, I baked these a little longer for the video so they would show up in the camera really well.  Brush with butter and enjoy!  I ate mine with Figs my mother had canned a few months back.  Please share and try this recipe!
